At times, stress acts as a motivation, and actually encourages a person to strive and achieve a task, which may otherwise look difficult with more ease. However, in perfect sense, stress should just be enough to keep a person perform better, and to his/her full potential, but not so much that it causes apprehension, and devastation. There is a thin line between too much or too little stress, and there is where the actual problem lies.

Stress becomes overwhelming when someone thinks, or realizes that their ability to cope up with a certain situation is much less then the situation demands. When stress becomes too much, its affects can easily be seen in certain experiences the person undergoes physically and psychologically.

There are a few ways by which a person can fight stress, and make it a positive energy rather than something that kills the capabilities of a person. The first most important step is to realize and question if your stress level is too much. Following that, many things can be done to lessen up the stress level. The point that should be kept in mind is to do things that are more practical and easier.

Like for instance, humor has proved itself the best and fastest way to reduce the level of stress. It has been proved medically that humor is beneficial because laughter actually generates certain helpful chemicals in your body that help decrease the stress. It is also said that humor actually helps your mind get distracted and think with a different mindset that is not as much stressed. Distraction of this sort has proved very helpful for most of the people.

Many researches and studies have proved light exercises helpful in stress relief. People undergoing a stressful situation can really benefit from a short and quick brisk walk that changes the atmosphere and helps take in some fresh air to stimulate positives senses. Extending exercise by taking a quick jog to the park, or a few star jumps can really put some positive energy in your body and prove quite relaxing.

Rehydration is also another easy way to lessen the stress level, as all your organs such as brain, kidneys, etc are strongly dependent on water. Therefore, rehydration can actually help your body function better.

Various studies have shown the benefits of a quick nap, or power nap for stress relief techniques. Ten to thirty minutes of sleep is all that you need, as it works as a powerful de-stressor.
